About Sam

Sam with Councillor colleagues after taking 5 seats for Welsh Labour in 2022 to retain Labour control of Flintshire
I'm a Welsh Labour County Councillor on Flintshire County Council whilst also working part-time in the Senedd.
As a County Councillor, I've used my platform to put our Labour values into action. With the Muslim Council of Wales, I organised the cross-party Councillor letter to the Senedd calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, an initiative which was credited as influencing Members of the Senedd to vote in favour of an immediate ceasefire motion.
Despite being a backbencher, I've also successfully brought about the implementation of progressive policy in Flintshire:
Implemented a rogue landlord tool in order to protect tenants against unscrupulous landlords
Implemented increased Council Tax Premiums on second homes and long-term empty properties to tackle the housing crisis and bring homes back into use
Brought about environmentally-friendly above-ground burials in Flintshire
Reformed licensing processes to give members of the public rights to be involved in licenses affecting them
I also campaign for the implementation of progressive Welsh Labour policies such as the divestment of our local authority pension fund from fossil fuels, pushing for the launching of a municipal bus company, and proper Community Wealth Building.
At heart, I'm a campaigner and an activist - I have a record of working with colleagues across factional party lines to achieve positive change.Â
If elected to be the Welsh representative on the NEC, you can rest assured that I will continue this track record in order to push for the member-led and progressive party that you as members deserve.
